A unique quick meal appliance Sep 10, 2010 I would actually give this 4 1/2 stars. I totally like this appliance. No, it isn't the quality of my big George Foreman Bistro, which I also love, but it serves an entirely different purpose. First, it is lightweight. I can pick it up in one hand, and with only a 5" footprint, stores easily in my smallest cabinet. It heats up in a jiffy and cooks in minutes. A puffy pancake, cute mini muffins, an omelet, quesadilla, meatloaf, grilled veggies, peach cobbler, etc. For one or two people it is ideal. The various cooking plates are a fun novelty. My grandkids love them. If "quick and easy" / "simple to handle & store" is what you want, I've not found anything else like it. The timer is it's weakest link. Won't last, but who needs it? Most people already have a kitchen timer. The timer does not control off and on. It's just a dinger. I have had no problem with paint or non stick coating peeling. The coating is spray-on, not the heavy duty stuff, but it works fine. Note that I NEVER use cooking sprays(on any nonstick surface). The propellants damage and reduce the life of nonstick finishes. Don't use them. I would also suggest purchasing through Amazon or QVC, as they are reputable and won't "inadvertently" charge you for a recipe program you didn't sign up for, which I have heard happens if you buy through the TV infomercial.
Corrupt company Sep 07, 2010 My mother ordered this product and later decided she didnt want to keep it because there are so many hidden extra costs. She mailed it back for $11, but the company is charging her $40 for the original shipping and handling. If you really want this product, do not order it from the 800 number. I cannot believe that they can over charge this way. I will never buy anything from an 800 number again!
mixed feelings Sep 07, 2010 Have used my unit twice now, but after reading all these reviews I will be very careful the next time...the first time I used it with great excitement, I made the mini cinnamon rolls out of a refrigerated pkgd. roll of cinnamon rolls & frosted them...surprisingly they were very good when warm, but like the cinnamon rolls when left whole and baked are not so good when cold, neither were these..but these were a success. Today I had 7 unexpected guests show up , 3 of them being children..what to do what to do with no snacks in the house...I grabbed the chocolate cake mix I had & fun sized candy bars and off to making the cake w/candy bar filling. Well, the first 2 came out beautifully, the next 2 stuck a little..but by the time I finished making #11 & 12 the cake stuck where the candy bar was, so I had to scrape the baked cake off the pan and place on top of the candy bar...then I frosted the cakes..They were very delicate when still warm, but when they cooled down, it was a very good tasting cake, except the candy bar hardens back up and you have a candy bar sitting in the middle of the cake...oh, ugh....will I make these again..yes...with the candy bar added? No....I sprayed the divided pan between each batch and it still stuck in places and I had to easy the cake slightly away for the entire dimention of the pan...I was able to get 12 individual cakes out of one box mix...this surprised me...nothing has melted on mine yet, knock on wood & I even ran the 7 min. baking time continually for the entire time...I am excited to try other food recipes but with trepidation..being ever so careful and watchful of what is going on with the machine..I felt the bell was plenty loud, I heard it 3 rooms away at one time...my only complaint is the high cost of shipping..BOGO free actually is buy one get one free with additional $39.95 shipping and handling..I know shipping shouldn't be that much, but they need for you to pay for something because nothing is free & beware that the second one comes with NOTHING but a machine, so if you plan on giving the second as a gift, they will NOT get the turning spatula or any of the extra pans..so what good is it then???? Gee I don't know how many stars to give it right now with this mixed review...
Mom says it's awesome. Sep 06, 2010 My mom has an addiction to kitchen appliances. She asked me for this as a birthday gift so I was obligated to get it for her. She says she uses it everyday and she absolutely loves it. She calls me everyday to tell me about a new recipe she's trying on it.
Good for Snacks Sep 06, 2010 Purchased Redi Set Go from Target for $40. Since I didn't have to pay shipping charges and had a $5 off coupon from Target, figured this was the better way to go. (plus I won't be hit with any surprise fees as other reviewers have complained about) We've cooked the Stuffed Soup, Quesadilla, Cake & candy bar dessert, "Un"fried Chicken, Corn muffin and hotdog, Eggs & Tator tots and a regular omelet. All of it turned out well but I had to double the cooking time for everything. One advantage is that it takes about one minute to preheat. Recipes need modification: I cut the chicken breast in half to ensure it cooked fully and used Panko crumbs instead of the Special K cereal. It actually turned out perfect, delicious and low fat... I normally use oil and pan-fry chicken for my family. I also wouldn't rely on it to fully cook raw vegetables. When I made the omelet, I added leftover onion that I had grilled the night before and it heated fully. I made sure the tator tots were defrosted before cooking. (If you recall from the commercial, Cathy "prepares" the egg and tator tot dish the night before -- which allows the frozen tots to defrost overnight.) You definitely need to use non-stick cooking spray every time you put something in the pan. We are having fun with this novelty and have yet to experience the wear & tear issues many people have complained about. (but I'm saving the box in case I need to return it... thanks for the heads up fellow reviewers!) I think this is a good product for preparing quick snacks and using up leftovers -- but not cooking a real meal.
