None of the pills I take fit well into these shaped holders. In fact, the same goes for my roommate. Even if they did fit well, the little shaped pill holders don't fit tightly in the pill cutter, which causes some of my pills to pulverize at times. There is never a clean cut. Those little holders are so cheaply made, I worry about damaging them if I'm not very careful.

This unit works surprisingly well, especially for the price. It comes with a dozen thin plastic pill guides (connected in 4 groups of three) to place under the blade, for a large variety of differently shaped pills.
There's a list printed on the cardboard package that tells you which plastic guide to use for 34 popular medications. Since I only use it on one pill, I separated that guide from the connected ones, and leave that guide in the pill cutter.
Cutting a pill in half is pretty easy. Cutting the half into quarters is a bit messy and not that cleanly done. The cuttter takes no strength to use. Just place the open cutter on a table, place the correct guide under the blade, insert the pill in the guide, close the cutter, then press down firmly on the closed cutter (sort of like a small stapler) with the heel of your hand to cut the pill. Open the cutter and pull the guide off the blade and the halves of the pill are in the guide.

The blade is not sharp enough and none of the pill holders really fit properly. We threw it away.

This is one of worst products ever. It doesn't work very well at all, none of my meds. would fit properly in this thing and it seemed to crushed the pill more so than cut it. It is not worth the time it takes to manufacture this product. Do not purchase it.

I was hoping this would be a pill cutter that would not only have different shaped inserts that could adjust to pill shapes but also a sharp blade that would cut them cleanly.
Two major issues I have had are: (1) The blade does not cut the pills cleanly - often not cutting all the way through the pill that is in the plastic shaped insert and partially crushing the pill along the cut line so you lose some of the medication. (2) The plastic inserts pull up with the blade after you cut the pill so you have to pop them off of the blade to get your pill out and since the pill is often partially crushed the powder gets scattered on the counter top.
The good thing is this was incredibly cheap so I don't feel bad just throwing it out and taking the extra time with good pill cutters to be sure the pills are oriented correctly before cutting them.
