4Great outdoor fun  Jan 07, 2010 By Lee Lavi
We bought this metal detector for our 7 years old daughter. She put it together herself (only a few parts). She likes to use it when she goes to the park, and find new "treasures". It is easy to carry and it works nicely.

5It detects metal  May 17, 2011 By Evan
5 stars because it detects metal, which is exactly what it is advertised to do, and hasn't broken yet. It doesn't have the greatest range, but if you're looking for something professional, you're probably not buying something with the words "Kid Quest" in the title. The power dial is at the base instead of at the handle, but that's because the base is designed to come off so it can be used in-hand. It doesn't come with the required 9v battery, so pick that up beforehand, and as with all electronics that don't cost hundreds of dollars, if you're getting it as a gift for a child, open it, make sure it works, then put it back in its packaging before you give it away. Wish it had a headphone jack, though it would have to run all the way up the handle if it did, making that pull-apart handle useless...
Overall this is exactly what I expected it to be: A cheap, noisy toy that will entertain a child for hours on end, give them bragging rights to their friends, and will not hold together through any level of abuse.

5Lots of fun for my kidos!  Apr 02, 2011 By Dustin W. Miller "Kayla Miller"
We got this from Fred Meyer for $6 in the clearence section. We have only used it for inside play but it works great for us. My kids are always asking me to take my rings off and set them around the house and when the detector gets close to it, it starts beeping. My kids are learing what is metal and what is not, it is definately a fun toy to have.
