Does the job, but needs less cheapness. Jun 29, 2007
By Steven A. Godun
"sgodun"
I first got one of these as a gift about a year and a half ago. It worked very well and I used it often. Then, about three months after I got it, it just stopped working. Repeated attempts to contact the manufacturer by phone and by email went unanswered so I ultimately just threw it away. I remove one star from my rating because of the manufacturer's refusal to respond to inquiries.
How it works is simple. Install a pair of "AA" batteries (tip: use alkalines, not rechargeables). Hold it in your hand and pinch (gently but firmly) the two halves of the unit together for about 2-3 seconds. You'll see the element get red-hot. Open the unit and pinch it around the open end of a bag. Slide it across the opening and the element will rapidly melt the plastic to create a new sealed barrier. Un-pinching the unit will break the contact and cool the element, which can be touched without injury almost instantly. This means that even children can use it safely.
There's two nice "extras" to this unit. The included cutting blade swings out from the "lip" of the unit and can cut through most plastic bags with ease. It's safely protected by a plastic guard so even kids can use it. Also, the base of the unit has a fairly large magnet so you can stick it to the side of your refrigerator and keep it in convenient reach.
I bought a new one a few weeks ago as I found a new specific need for it. It works as well as I remember but there's definitely a small learning curve to it; it's not a "rip it out of the box and it works perfectly" gadget. You need to work out how quickly (or slowly) to move the sealing element. Too fast and the bag may not seal properly; too slow and you can burn through the bag. The most important tip is to remember that speed, NOT PRESSURE, seals the bag. If you squeeze too tight you'll get poor results no matter how fast or slow you go. Thin plastic, like sandwich bags or bread bags, require a more deft touch. Heavier plastic, like potato chip bags or M&M bags, require a more deliberate movement.
The reason why I've taken off the second star is because of the cheap-feeling nature of the unit. The whole of the unit is pressure molded plastic and doesn't feel like it would survive too many falls off the kitchen counter. The top half is held on with a simple hinge that doesn't open nearly as much as you'd think. Taken as a whole there's no other way to say it: It simply looks and feels cheap. A more ergonomic shape, better quality plastics, or even a textured finish to give it better grip would have improved this product immensely.

Great money/food-saving tool! A *MUST* for humid areas! LOVE IT! Dec 04, 2005
By K I've owned a couple of these over the past ten years, and I absolutely LOVE this tool. It takes a bit of skill at first to learn how to use it appropriately for different types of plastic (metallic potato chip bags, vs clear pretzel bags, vs flimsy sandwich bags). But once you know how to use it --- and it only takes a few minutes of testing to really get the feel of how it works on various items --- it'll work over and over and over again.
The Euro Sealer seals plastic reliably, cleanly, easily, heats up very quickly (in about 3 seconds!) and stores well. This product has saved me a great deal of money in preventing wasted food over the years. Those "chip clip" things don't seal air out, but this does. It's a MUST for any humid environment!
I think the first reviewer must've not taken the time to learn how to use the product and understand the appropriate pressure and speed needed for different materials. If you just jump right into it without ever learning how to use it properly, the sealer will either melt the plastic (and burn it onto the sealer itself), or will miss sealing parts. This is also stated in the instructions.
I love that you can use it as battery operated, or A/C. I may have had to send away for the A/C adapter, or it may have originally been offered with the product; I don't recall which, but I use it both with A/C or battery, depending where I am. I take this with me while traveling.
Another cool feature is the slide out bag opener. It's similar to a letter opener, in that it's just a blade with plastic guides around it to prevent your fingers from getting in, but no more opening a bag of beans or cake mix or chips only to have the contents fly up and into your face when you finally are able to rip it open. Quick, easy and handy.
This is also great for crafts. I've used it for sealing up small items for sale on eBay, even creating my own bags for beads, just from using larger pieces of leftover grocery store bags.
I keep the Euro Sealer by my stove at all times and use it nearly every day.
The ONLY down side is that after thousands of uses, the protective nylon fabric strip can become dislodged. I've only had to replace the item once in many years. For how inexpensive this is, how often I use it, and how much money it saves me in NON-wasted food, this is a very minor point.
OVERALL, an excellent product that should be in every kitchen.

Works, but tricky Feb 08, 2008
By Bowler-Cane The Euro sealer does what its supposed to do - seal. However, you have to have a little bit of patience and practice. Once you get the trick down its a good seal everytime. If you hold and press for too long it will cut through the plastic. Hold and press gently, count 1:1000 - 2:1000 then glide it steady from end to end. This works for me. It may vary for others.

The Euro Sealer is Snake Oil Oct 11, 2006
By Fryfat Another snake oil product advertising on TV, it's too bad as that is the medium where a lot of REAL inventors get their start.
The Euro Sealer might work on some bags, but I have not found any. The following bags I tried:
Plastic Cereal bags
Plastic Bread bags
Plastic corn chip bags
Plastic pasta bags
and every other bag laying around the kitchen. None of them worked. I tried it fast, slow, I held the euro sealer on the plastic for a good 3 minutes on a single spot. It held for a second, but while putting the bag away it opened back up - the seal was that weak.
If you're looking for a product to do what the eurosealer claims, you're going to have to spend more than $15 - more like $115, and get a vacuum sealer. Tupperware would also work, or zip-loc baggies. The euro sealer will not do a thing.
The magnet works great and is very handy for putting up pictures on the fridge. Way to go magnet!

Handy little gadget Sep 16, 2006
By AZ Reader I've had a Eurosealer for, oh, about five years now and use it frequently to open and reseal snack bags. I have replaced the batteries ONCE in five years. Note that the instructions that come with it say it will seal MYLAR bags only, not plastic storage bags. Mylar bags usually have a silvery look on the inside, but some are virtually clear. This gadget does need to be moved s-l-o-w-l-y across the bag, but it seals just fine. And the plastic-protected swing-out blade (like those small handheld letter openers) neatly slices open the bag. Only problem, I snapped off the plastic blade protector recently when I was too rough opening a bag. (Must have been really hungry, couldn't wait!) I can still use the blade, but have to be careful of the sharpness now. If not for that, I'd give it 5 stars.
