Works, but needs to be checked frequently Mar 15, 2012
By Jens Zorn I have two of these for use in a shower for stability, not weight support (this is in accordance with the package label). This handle works well PROVIDED that each of the cups has a perfectly smooth surface for attachment AND that the edges of the cups have no defect through which air can leak. [Potential problem for attachment is that the suction-cup spacing is just a bit short of making a good match with the typical US bathroom tile size, 4.5", and so it is easy for a grout line to interrupt the smooth seal of at least one of the cups --- for this reason I downgrade to 4 stars]
Under those conditions, and absent problems from grout lines, I find that the handle stays firm for five days, at least, but I make it a practice to check attachment EACH time I step into the shower, re-attaching with a single flip of the lever if necessary.
In the long run, I should probably use bolts to install a metal support bar, however using these suction-mounted bars in a preliminary way lets me find the location where a permanent bar would be most useful.
Finally, I use another one of these in my sculpture studio to handle large sheets of metal and plastic ---- very convenient!
All in all, and considering their limitations, I find these handles to be a useful, economical purchase.
Functional product, shop locally Oct 11, 2011
By JT-VT This product is sold at CVS for $9.99. Unless you're home-bound you may want to consider purchasing it locally (for less). In my case, I was recovering from knee replacement surgery and required a second unit and Amazon was a convenient option for me.
USELESS AND UNSAFE!!!! Oct 05, 2011

"design diva"
I bought this for a friend to use who has health issues and sometimes gets dizzy getting out of the shower. In spite of cleaning every surface of the tiles and the suction cups with rubbing alcohol and/or Dawn multiple times, the bar DOES NOT STAY ON for more than 10 minutes. It is shameful that this product is promoted for helping people with stability when it is a total piece of you-now-what. If I had the receipt from BB&B I would get my money back.
Get a grip alright, and AVOID THIS PRODUCT!
